ALL future EA titles to include micro-transactions...... Empty ALL future EA titles to include micro-transactions......

Yes they’re really doing this.

In a recent announcement in the Morgan Stanley Technology Media & Telecom Conference, Electronic Arts CFO Blake Jorgensen has stated plans for all future titles to include micro-transaction markets and options. Jorgensen claims that “consumers are enjoying and embracing that way of the business” and wholeheartedly supporting the idea of micro-transactions within video games. He specified that “we’re building into all of our games the ability to pay for things along the way, either to get to a higher level, to buy a new character, to buy a truck, a gun; whatever it may be.” all of which strongly suggests a pay-to-win mentality on the part of EA in their decision to include these within the titles.

They may have made it official but havent they pretty much been doing this for a while now? In particular with their sports games.

Good luck to EA, their number crunchers obviously know that this works for them and if people need to spend then thats their prerogative - this kind of practice starts to become an issue though when games present clear barriers to progression that require funds to get around....

Oh the irony of this announcement given that they have just cancelled Dead Space 4 and shut down Visceral because Dead Space 3 didn't 'perform' well enough.......

Theyve looked at how much money the get from Ultimate team and decided that we need to have the option to spend more on their games

By all accounts, there is no truth to this and Visceral have confirmed they are still up and running.

I still don't get EA's decision to can Dead Space it's only been on sale for a month that's hardly any time to gauge it's performance. It's still in the top 10 chart too which baffles the mind even more Slap

More likely its the number crunching bean counters that will make this type of decision.

Whether its cancelled or not there is a lot that EA could learn from DS3 if they were only to look at themselves. They wanted the appeal of the game opened up which meant taking it away from its survival horror roots as it became more action orientated, they show horned co-op in which again always detracts from survival horror (RE5?) and then they announce microtransactions at the last minute.

Given 2 of the moves were aimed at taking the franchise more into the mainstream and broadening its appeal, so far it has not sold as well as DS2.....

EA allegedly targeted the game to shift 5million units as well which seems a lot imo.

Throw in Dragon Age and Mass Effect as 2 more EA published franchises that have been watered down for the 'mainstream'

I am half excited and half fearful for the next Dragon Age game, Origins was fucking excellent, number 2 was a pretty poor follow up.
