Killer Instinct Digital Release Only
As the title states, KI is to be a digital only release available from day one of the Xbone release. I have no problem with that myself.
It's even free to play . But there's a catch, the only character you can use on the free version is Jago, you'll have to pay for the rest of the gang.
Why not just release the game at a decent price & make all the roster available from the get go. M$ will have to remember that now things being priced in real money people will be able to see if they're being ripped off with extra content.

I don't care, I've been waiting far too long for this!
I can see M$ eventually releasing the full game for a set price, however this isn't necessarily a bad idea, most beat em up players tend to focus on one or two characters so having the choice to just purchase those that you use could work out cheaper

Re: Killer Instinct Digital Release Only
Can someone clue me in on this one? I am not a beat em up fan at all so have never really paid attention to KI.
What makes it so fondly loved because from the E3 reveal last night, it looked little different to any other beat em up I have seen.....

Re: Killer Instinct Digital Release Only
It was released on the SNES way, way back by Rare & was a perfect conversion of the coin op version in the arcades.
It was a visually stunning game that amazed people when they realised what machine it was playing on. It was also a smooth running game which had no frame rate issues.
The were also different game play elements to it that set it apart from the normal fighting games of that time.
It was also developed by Rare, who at the time were a tour de force in the gaming world & could do very little wrong as Ultimate:Play The Game & could do no wrong at all as Rare.
It's hard to believe what M$ has done to that company.
It also helps to wear rose tinted classes

Re: Killer Instinct Digital Release Only
It is in my mind the best fighter ever made, it offered great accessibility to new comers while at the same time offering an incredibly deep fighting system for veterans.
The satisfaction of pulling off your first combo breaker and hearing the announcer shout c-c-c-combo breaker! was a feeling hard to beat in the arcades at the time. I dread to even think about the amount of money I pumped into that machine finishing it the first time round, it surprisingly still plays really nicely today even through an emulator

Cheers fella's, genuine lack of knowledge on my own part so its good to get a perspective. In fairness Rage have produced some fantastic titles but until now don't really seem to have been that well employed by MS.
Hope this one turns out well

Double Helix doing the game doesn't fill me with the greatest of confidence when you look at their release titles, but as I said earlier it's a rose tinted glasses moment & one that could be well & truly shattered.
Whilst I accept that the Rare of then & the Rare of now are completely different companies as such, I still blame M$ for neutering a great game developer.

Re: Killer Instinct Digital Release Only
Double Helix have released some more information regarding this....
Basically the game will be released in a few favours, there will be a full price release containing everything aspell as a possible collectors edition.
The free to play part comes into effect elsewhere, basically you can download the trial version of the game that just contains Jago, from there you can play for free forever as just that or you can purchase the full version OR you can pick and choose the parts if the game you want to unlock for smaller amounts.
The micro purchases will in include singleplayer modes (time attack, survival etc) Characters, costumes and arenas.
Double Helix have Also confirmed that along with Saberwulf, Jago and Glacius - Fulgore, Cinder and Spinal will definitely be making a return
