EA drops Wii U support until it becomes a "viable platform" Empty EA drops Wii U support until it becomes a "viable platform"

In a rare and shocking move, EA confirmed last month that there will be No FIFA 14 on Wii U following "disappointing" sales of FIFA 13 on the console. Now it has emerged that other EA titles, including all EA sports titles will skip the platform.

Gibeau told Joystiq this week that Nintendo must "sell more boxes" for EA to resume support for the platform.

"Look, the only thing they can do to fix it is to sell more boxes. We're a rational company, we go where the audience is. We publish games where we think we can make a great game and hit a big audience, and make money. That's why we're here, that's why we have an industry," said Gibeau.

"The Wii U, we shipped four games. We shipped Madden, FIFA, Need for Speed and Mass Effect. In fact, the last Need for Speed shipped 60 days ago had a pretty good Metacritic. It was a good game. It wasn't a schlocky port, we actually put extra effort into getting everything to work. And it's just not selling because there's no boxes," he added.

It seemed pretty obvious to me that was reason why they weren't supporting Wii U.

Ninty need to get their finger out, they had a small window of opportunity before the M$ and Sony consoles hit market, and it doesn't appear that they have taken it.

I fear for Nintendo, they arent making any headway at the end of this gen so sales arent exactly going to improve in a few months time when the new consoles launch.

They really are suffering now for not getting some of their highly popular exclusives released.

I would love it if they went the Sega route and just released software multiplatform. They still make great games, some of the best games out there, but it's difficult to justify a console purchase just for 4 or 5 truly great games a generation.

I agree with you Daz.  I guess Nintendo will argue though that they are one of the only hardware providers that consistently turns a profit from console sales so why should they stop?  The 3DS suffered a poor start but eventually picked up and I guess they hope the Wii U will be the same.

If the Wii U fails to pick up maybe they will reassess their approach.

The thought of having Mario Kart on 360 though and having a full multiplayer lobby with friends would be awesome!

Nintendo had a chance but they've wasted it. They released a full year before the others and they've done nothing with it. They should have got it released, dropped the price down and tried to sell bucket loads of them, then bang out a few of their first party big hitters. By the time the other consoles released they could have signs in game shops for a Wii U with 4 big name games (Mario and the like) for the same price as just the PS3 console.

They need should be offering it as a cheaper next-gen alternative to people who just want to play Fifa and Cod.

Another problem Nintendo have is that their big games just Don't hold the sway they used to....

It used to be that Nintendo's titles were hands down the best in their fields but now you have so many other great options that the names alone are beginning to lose the grip they once had

Once EA drops your console your fucked. Nintendo will still sell to die hards, but their games ain't what they once were. I used to be a Nintendo nut (every console from NES to GameCube and every handheld from Game and Watch to the first DS).  imo the Wii was too much of a gimmick and the games weren't as playable as the previous consoles.

Would love to see Nintendo games on non Nintendo machine.
