Xbox One includes unlimited cloud storage free to all
It's no secret that the Xbox One has had a rough reveal. From the Digital Rights Management controversy (that later saw a reversal in policy) to utter miscommunication from Microsoft's internal parties at conveying the proper message of their new console, the Xbox One could not seem to catch a break.
The negativity saw some reversal yesterday, as Microsoft revealed their updated policy regarding self-publishing for independent developers on the Xbox One platform. This was followed up with the revelation that every store bought Xbox One console is indeed a possible development unit.
Some more positive news has come out of the first ever PAX Australia this past weekend. During it, some key features have been revealed regarding the Xbox One. Aside from the usual "3X's the computing power" offered by the Cloud service speech, the people at Microsoft have now confirmed that the cloud essentially gives you an "unlimited sized" hard drive, allowing players to save unlimited game data via the service.
According to Microsoft's public relation's, the Xbox One will offer this service for all Xbox Live members, negating the necessity of an Xbox Live Gold account to utilize the service as it stands currently.
"Xbox Live offers Xbox One unlimited storage space in the cloud for all Xbox Live members to store numerous types of Xbox Live content, including your profile, games, Achievements and entertainment. This content is stored and saved in the cloud so you can automatically access it anywhere, anytime, no matter where you are."
Not a bad perk to have, as it eliminates some of the limitations of a physical hard drive

Im wholly unconvinced about this.
Firstly I dont see how they can offer unlimited space - some joker is im sure going to test that shit out by creating zillions of skyrim saves - ok not skyrim skyrim but you get my drift.
Secondly given that you need gold for pretty much EVERYTHING on live - from the simple things like using IE to using a subscription youre already paying for (needing live gold for using your netflix account is such bollocks)

Have MS actually confirmed what you'll need Gold for on the Xbone yet?
I think by "unlimited" they probably mean the same as mobile network operaters in that it will be subject to a fair use policy

Wait, so are they claiming I can save the digital copies of my games on there? Then stream them from the cloud? I'm a tad sceptical. What about DLC? Can I stream the new maps for Call of Duty 3: Even moderner Warfare from the cloud? I don't think my internet will handle that. Or is the cloud just offering me a faster way of downloading my content onto my hard drive - allowing me to "shift" it from my cloud to my actual hard drive to use it rather than redownloading it again?

The cloud it seems will be employed for many things on the Xbone this one however simply relates to storage, much like you get on the 360 now except you can store a wider variety of things aswell as having "unlimited" space to do so

But if I can't play games that I've stored on there then what's the point? Games are what will be taking up the bulk of my hard drive next gen, letting me save my 300kb game saves to the cloud isn't helping much if the 15gb games still have to fit on my hard drive.

Games are storable too which would suggest you can stream them as long as the discs in the tray

The slow connections over the last couple of nights have been a Live issue mate, many people have been struggling with MP games and patches.
If your updates are always like that then I would suggest contacting your ISP cause 4mins for a 6mb patch is really slow even on my 8mbps connection....

Uploading a BR based game.. Andwhere from maybe 6 GB to 50GB Thats going to be so quick. (Cue the Homer font again )
The 360 seems to DOWNLOAD fairly quickly - though my connection is only around 25mb down (I say only.. thats pretty decent compared to what I had 12 months ago - but im sure there are some that have 70+)
The ps3 is pretty cock at downloading - im convinced sony cap the speed - they are gonna have to sort that shit out !

Ah 'The Cloud' the magical answer to all lifes problems. Not convinved on this either. Upload speeds are generally crap in this country and moving stuff to that magical place in the sky is going to take an age.
Give me the option to swap the drive out for something bigger any day of the week over this.

The cloud will be used to store your settings and game saves, I imagine it will also store a copy fo your game. You do not need to upload your games, as the cloud service will allready have the game files, it would just recognise that you have purchased that particular game. This is how i see it working.
As for swapping out a HDD, that is not possible on the xbox one, howevber you can plug in external HDD or memory sticks to increase local storage.

Game already stored on the Cloud was exactly what I have been leaning towards, it's not a difficulty to imagine at all and will deffo remove upload times completely
