HTML 5 coming to Xbox One, opening the system to all Windows 8 & Windows Phone apps
Microsoft is implementing a HTML 5 solution onto the Xbox One, this move is only in its conceptual stages at the moment but Microsoft wants to put it in place so they can attract more developers to its Windows Phone platform.
This news comes in the wake of Microsoft’s purchase of Nokia’s phone division for $7.1bn , it also follows a decision to lower the annual fee for windows phone development. Putting all of these changes together reveals one thing, that Microsoft wants to be the big contender against Apple and Google in the mobile phone market.
Microsoft’s EVP said in a sales meeting that “We want to offer the opportunity to build either HTML5 applications, or native applications that span all of those devices, enabling them to reach segments of users on those devices, users on a gaming console, and provide them with very unique opportunities to monetize their application investments,”.
It would also make sense for Microsoft to make this move with the Xbox One as the entire console acts as its own development kit, all you need to do is plug it into your PC, know what you’re doing and then you’re off. The addition of HTML 5 on the Xbox one would then allow anyone with the console to effectively develop mobile applications for Windows phones as well as games for the Xbox One.
