Call of Duty finally gettibg the shake up it needs?
Activision confirms today that developer Sledgehammer Games will be tasked to develop the next Call of Duty game to release this year. Adding Sledgehammer to the rotation means that the development cycle for Call of Duty titles has extended from a two year development cycle to three years, giving more time for Infinity Ward and Treyarch to build their games.
Sledgehammer Games was founded in 2009 and helped Infinity Ward develop Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. According to Game Informer, Activision notes during a conference call that the Call of Duty series has branched into three: Modern Warfare, Black Ops, and Ghosts. Infinity Ward developed Call of Duty: Ghosts while Black Ops is helmed by Treyarch, which leaves Modern Warfare to Sledgehammer Games if we go by the process of elimination.

It's has its day now in my opinion. It's the same old thing every year.

I still need to be convinced. Didnt Sledgehammer make just the MP part of MW3?

I see no reason why having yet another dev doing a CoD game will necessarily mean it'll be an improvement.

I hated Ghosts - thought it was complete shit.
This is a good thing though, giving the studios an extra. Year might well help to ensure we get better games and more innovation. It's not guaranteed but seems logical that there's a good chance of a positive effect.

I think you're looking at it the wrong way, Cylon. It's not that having a different dev make it will make it better, but the current two devs will both get an extra year between games. Looking back at ghosts, Blops 2 etc and then weren't inherently flawed as games, but with an extra year to polish them they could have been much better.Toasted Cylon wrote:I see no reason why having yet another dev doing a CoD game will necessarily mean it'll be an improvement.

Gave up on COD after the SP on MW3. Haven't played COD online since the first BLOPS and haven't even bothered buying the last 2.

Yeah what I mean by shake up us not the addition of Sledgehammer but more the fact that IW and Teryarch will now get an extra year

Also hoping the next Battlefront will be like a Star Wars Battlefield.

The only way I would ever buy CoD again is if they re-released CoD4 in some sort of anniversary edition. BUT only if they updated the graphics and used dedicated servers. No other changes just the same maps with the same kill streaks. But it won't happen.

Re: Call of Duty finally gettibg the shake up it needs?
they should just draw a line in the sand with all the ones that came last gen and let treyarch handle a multiplayer only "generation" edition cod with every map, and a whole bunch of favourite weapons and so on from an assortment of the games. then, with that blowout out of the way, start afresh. new gen, new engine, new appraoch
thats what they should do..........
