Post by og igm Mon 24 Jan 2011 - 19:18

hi all, im a mate of the infamous scottish jedi and pretty new to the xbox / gaming world. He pointed me in the direction of this forum. have been playing a fair bit of MW2 and getting a bit hooked at times. Had no problems until i got the recent update from MS and since then the machine started freezing mid game on xbox live and sometimes on start up. Now doesnt want to start and has 3 red lights on the front. It did start after i came back from being away for a couple of days but its back to the 3 red rings...

did come across a thread after a search on google which sounds like a similar problem I think the secondary error code originally came up as 0110 but did it again and got 0111.

Anyone got any thoughts / advice?

cheers Matt

hello mate 3 red light s is the infamous red ring of death, phone customer suport as you need to arrange for it to be sent of for repair, its all free to you.

you say your new to xbox,if your xbox is under 12 months old just take it back to the shop for a new one, easier than sending off for repair

ah cool, tried turning it on just there and it started and then froze a minute later when going through the menus. Is that usual with the RROD?

have probably managed to turn it on 3 out of 5 or 6 times since getting the rings the first but have been reluctant to keep trying incase it makes it worse. It was freezing up mid game online and had to restart but didnt get the rings straight away when that happened.

hello mate welcome to the site. The problem you are describing is exactly the same as what happened to my old machine. If it is still in warrenty for the Red ring of death (3 years) then send it in under this fault as it is practically the same issue and id be very surprised is MS got arsey about it. If you are out of warranty it is possible to repair yourself. Bassically as the machine heats and cools with use over time the solder joints on the CPU and/or GPU dry and start to fail which causes the freezing you speak of when the machine starts to get a bit warm. You will need to remove the heat sinks from the processors and clean the up applying new thermal compound then you can bassically allow the machine to start with out connecting the fans. this lets the machine over heat and "re-balls" the solder on the proc's. Loads of "how too" guides on youtube but its never garunteed. I did mine and it worked fine for 7 days then went back to the RROD so I need to try again but could save you an arm and a leg if it works and its pretty simple to do with just a few basic bits

Noticed Craigs fasination with Andy on his bios, has he seen anyone about his problem? Don't know whether to feel sorry for Craig or look at getting him put down, would be the humane thing to do lol Razz
