Square Enix has revealed that it is still keen to bring MMO Final Fantasy XIV to Xbox 360 - but that Microsoft's 'closed' Live platform has so far prevented the publisher from doing so.

Square released fellow MMO Final Fantasy XI on the 360 in 2003 - but the firm's newest FF title will only be coming to PC and PS3.

When asked why, Square producer Hiromichi Tanaka commented that "Microsoft's guidelines were not so clearly defined [back then]".

In an interview with German site 4Players, the developer explained that Square had so far failed to get FFXIV on 360's "closed system".

However, Tanaka added that Square is "still trying to speak with [MS] and negotiate". He said that if Square and Microsoft could "come to an agreement" that there would "definitely" be a 360 version of the game released in the future.

However, he said that development on the game for the Microsoft platform had "stopped" for the foreseeable future.

Final Fantasy XIV is due for release on PC in September, with the PS3 version to follow next year.
