Assassin's Creed III heading to the American Revolution?

An image reportedly from Assassin's Creed III has leaked.

The image allegedly comes from Best Buy's internal employee news and was sent to Kotaku by an employee.

The image clearly features Native American influences, including a bow and arrow, headdress and necklace. The character is also wearing cowskin boots and holding what appears to be a Revolutionary pistol.

This seems to confirm popular rumors that the third installment of Assassin's Creed will be set in the American Revolution. For now, we're not sure, but earlier today Ubisoft confirmed that a major announcement will be coming on Monday.

Interesting change of direction.....

Ubi did say that this would be a big departure but where in the American west will freerunning and amazing leaps of faith come in?

It does suggest a potential shift in gameplay - could be more RDR than AC2/Brotherhood.

I'm unconvinced, unless Ubisoft are really shaking up the gameplay I just can't see how it will work...

They definitely need to kill the series off after this game. I have really enjoyed them so far, although not tried Revelations yet. There are only so many times that they can just tweak the gameplay and bring out a new game.

I think that's what this is mate, Ubi did state that ACIII would be a re-invention rather than a tweak. I applaude them for this as they could have just carried it on as a cash cow....
