30 years ago the Spectrum was launched

Its hard to believe it's been 30 years since the launch of the little black box with the rubber keys. Many of todays top games designers cut their first code on the machine and it was the best selling games machine in the UK. The sheer amount of games released for the spectrum was vast and covered every genre.

You can still enjoy playing the games through the use of emulators today if you dont have access to the actual spectrum hardware.

A landmark in gaming and its scary to believe it is 30 years ago and the amazement I felt as a 6/7 year old kid seeing games like Manic Miner for the first time. I never had a Spectrum but went from an Atari 800 to a C64. Such great times

I think Atari and NES etc are more my generation but I do remember playing a lot of Manic Miner for some reason! Awesome game.

I had the 128k. never forget wait for the game to load then after what seemed like half an hour get an error message.

i remember my first system being the c64 and oh my what a machine.
flimbos quest shadow run just to name a few.
i remember i used to go and get the magazine with the added game with my pocket money
good old days

I always loved start loading a game before school only to come home at the end of the day with the anticipation of playing the game and it had crashed half way through aaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh lol

I remember our local newsagent had a rack of Mastertronic games for £1.99 each - pocket money affordable and if you were feeling even more flush they had a premium £2.99 range

zZap was the magazine for the c64 fanboy, loved the games and the anticipation of the game loading.

i still say one of the best games i played when younger was called 'Jack Attack'. you were what looked like a tomatoe and you had to move blocks to free yourself. that was on the Commadore 16.
