Are Bethesda about to bring S.T.A.L.K.E.R back from the brink?

Though S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developer GSC Games is no longer in business, it appears the company's fan favorite PC franchise may live on. According to a new report, Bethesda has purchased the rights to S.T.A.L.K.E.R., which means new S.T.A.L.K.E.R. could be in development very soon.

This wouldn't be the first time Bethesda stepped in to purchase a previously PC-exclusive franchise. Before the release of Fallout 3, Bethesda purchased the rights to the Fallout brand from Interplay. Rumors had even circulated once before of Bethesda's purchase of GSC's title, but were refuted by GSC founder Sergiy Grygorovych. In May, Grygorovych turned to Facebook to respond to a reported Bethesda acquistion, stating, “There is no truth to the allegations that the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. rights have been sold to Bethesda. The rights belong to Sergiy Grygorovych, the founder of GSC Game World.” Apparently things have changed since just a few months ago.

GSC folded late last year, which resulted in the cancellation of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 and many team members moving on to form Vostok Games,. The game had never made the transition to consoles in the years before GSC folded, but now that Bethesda may have a hand in future developed S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, there's a chance we could see the franchise of next generation consoles.


Exciting news this, The original is one of the few PC games I really enjoyed and with Bethesda's talent for bringing back games with a bang this could turn out really well

It's an FPS RPG similar to Fallout but set around the area of Chernobyl but after a second explosion occurs at the stricken plant and things start getting odd

I always fancied STALKER on the PC but never got round to getting it but this sounds promising. Effectively Fallout in Chernobyl? What's not to like!
