Lovefilm axes game rentals.

As it says above. Focusing more on Film and TV series.

It looks like Boomerang are the only UK service to still offer game rentals....

fucking pricks.

this needs clarifying quick. what happens to the people already on the games package? i would assume that the number of games they acquire for rental will massively drop and the prices will go up

Right before the shift to the next gen. Presumably the cost of rental copies is going to sky rocket for them? Otherwise I would have thought that more people would be wanting to rent games since the purchase prices are much higher?

Looks as though I will be cancelling then.. I have always got on quite well with them as well  

Mind you it does say that they wont be offering new subscriptions or there current customers switching to a game package so does that mean that if you already have a games package they will continue to rent them ?

theres already some new games they have not got in at all, and some that they got very very limited stocks on, the last of us being one such example.

chances are, they will not get any next gen in at all

Just got Dead Space 3 yesterday, so will crash through that one & then cancel.

yeah its been confirmed that if your an existing games rental customer nothing changes but you cant switch to a new package

Looks like I will be dropping my sub with them then. I have the 3 at home incl. discs package and get the odd game when I am at a loose end. Most of the time my wife has all 3 discs so I will switch my package and save a bit of loose change.

Presumably they'll have to cancel it eventually though? They aren't going to maintain an up-to-date library of new games without allowing new people to subscribe.

I doubt it's a poor business decision Dong, there's probably some financial reasoning behind it otherwise it would carry on.

When you consider the length of time a person has a game & the cost of getting the stock compared to that of dvds. On paper at least, I'd say it rather favours getting rid of something that would appear not to be cost effective.

The bottom line in a business is profit. Seeing as it's owned by Amazon then a bean counter in an office who only crunches numbers has made this decision.

But how many people will now cancel their subs? Time will tell

It wouldn't be a surprise to me if the customer loss outstrips the gains for a month or two.

My prediction amazon will flog lovefilm sometime next year for a significant loss, watch this space

That's good to know, I think I'll rundown the dvds I got lined up with Lovefilm & then swap over.

August 8 they are going to stop games rentals altogether apparently.

I will finish my 2 games I have with them and then cancel and move on to Boomerang.
