BF3's HD Pack can only be installed on a 360 HDD

Wow. This we can barely believe. In fact if it hadn't happened to me personally, I probably wouldn't. It seems that if you're playing Battlefield 3 on one of the new-ish 4Gb slim Xbox 360s, unless ours is a freak isolated incident (and a couple of references I've found on forums imply that it certainly is not), you might be stuck with crappy last-gen (or worse) textures throughout the game.

We knew that BF3 'recommends' an optional HD texture install on the 360, in order to allow the game to look, well, not shit. And I had wondered about the feasibility of that process for gamers with limited HD space. But while making a comparison video for tomorrow's review, I've just discovered that BF3 wouldn't install its HD textures on our 4Gb 360 at all. Seriously. It just wasn't having any of it. It seems that the game is seeing the 4Gb internal memory as a Memory Unit rather than a hard drive, and thus refuses to work with it. The problem? We currently suspect that it's due to the 4Gb in the Slim being onboard Flash memory rather than an actual hard drive. Scroll on for a procession of screenshots detailing what happened when I tried.

It is also now confirmed that the pack CANNOT be installed to a USB drive either, Wether this is the case for disc installation too is unknown but I'll update as I know...

The funniest thing is that play.com are selling a BF3 bundle with a 4gb slim

Its not a fail to me i've gotta be honest. Its still the cheapest way to experience BF3, albeit without the HD textures

Could always do what i did and put the HDD from the 'old' xbox into the 'slim'. Works out alot cheaper.

Nevermind, it doesnt bother me as I still have 120gb+ left on my 250 gig

I suspect the HDD read performance is much better than the FLASH memory and definitely much better than USB AND in my experience last night it takes a few seconds of looking at something before the HD textures bother loading/render... so... its a bit of a con really.... I'd like to see a moving side by side comparison....

Brilliant visuals from this game! the visual stlye of each map is really different not like BC2 where it was rather similar.

i have had my copy since thursday but not been able to play it is even worse.

I'm missing mine.......(probably has to do with me cancelling the pre-order and having no spare cash left after buying the boy a new coat, shoes and trainers....god help him if these shoes don't last longer than 2 weeks)
