Onlive comes as standard on all devices running the Google TV OS, Could this spell the end of consoles?
News out of CES 2102 is cloud gaming will soon be featured in all Google TV devices thanks a to new deal between the internet giant and the online game streaming service OnLive.
The partnership will see all hardware and devices sporting Google TV —TVs, Blu-ray players, Media Streamers, and all—enhanced with the ability to play OnLive's 200+ library of video games without having to worry about pesky things like installs or "system specs". Players will able to control the games using OnLive's proprietary wireless controller, or through regular USB pads.
“OnLive integration into Google TV is a huge leap forward for videogames,” wrote Steve Perlman, OnLive Founder and CEO, on the Google TV blog. “Consumers have come to expect instant gratification with music, movies and video. Now, with OnLive, players in the US and soon in the UK can just as easily stream the highest-quality games to their Google TV devices for play instantly on demand, without discs or downloads.”
Currently, only the OnLive Viewer app is available for existing Google TV users, with full OnLive gameplay functionality set to follow in the near future. Essentially, that means you can watch, cheer, and harass other OnLive gamers on Google TV devices right this very instant, but will have to wait until later to get in on the fun.
OnLive is currently available for PCs, Macs, iOS, and Android devices.
A shocking revelation quite frankly, if this takes off and broadband speeds pick up then the need for a console could soon be obsolete....

With my internet provider saying they are going to be doubling speeds to 60meg in the next 12 months this is definitely something i would look at - was looking at getting a Google TV supported plasma when my current one is gone.
Onlive are doing today pretty much what i thought M$ were working towards with the next console, will be interesting to see how long they last before being bought out. If its not microsoft, i am sure Apple would see this as a good entry to the home gaming market (you can no longer call it a console market) although this appears Google may be in the driving seat.
Onlive are also doing some pretty awesome stuff on other devices, just seen that they can get an iPad to run windows and associated programmes such as M$ office

Very interesting. Same problems over nationwide BB standard being so mixed but long term this is going to be a very tempting option!
