SONY 'no more FREE online'?????

A new report suggests that PS+ is going to be replaced with 'PLAYSTATION WORLD'. SONY's answer to 'Xbox Live'. Not clear if online gaming will remain free or not. Guess we'll find out tonight.

No end of people on PSU complaining and saying they will ditch Sony if they have to pay .

I think the current offering of PS+ is much better than Live in my opinion, and they cost around the same. If Sony do go down that route I think it could ruin some of the goodwill built up over PS+ recently

From my point of view, I have never taken my PS3 online for gaming, just stick to single player stuff, so as long as the PS+ content still comes through I won't be too bothered. I fancy there will be a price rise though.

i'm really tempted to get PS+ for the free games - you just cant ignore that value for money but i dont really play the PS online which is what is holding me back

if i mget it now do i get all the free games going back or only the ones going forward?

PS+ is great value for money, since they changed it to the 'Instant Game Collectom', looking t my trophy list I have had the likes of Bulletstorm, Limbo, Darksiders, Resident Evil 5, Borderlands & Warhammer on my PS3 and Jet Set Radio, Wipeout 2048, Uncharted Golden Abyss and Mutant Blobs Attack.

Looking at what's on my hard drive, I have downloaded but not played Far Cry 2, Outland, Littlebigplanet 2, Motorstorm Apocolypse, inFamous , Deus Ex, Dead Space 2, Saints Row 2, Just Cause 2, Red Dead Redemption, Crysis 2, Batman Arkham City, F1 Race Stars and Sleeping Dogs for my PS3, and Gravity Rush & Lumines for my Vita.

I haven't even listed all of the content that I have had access to!! Yes PS+ is a glorified rental service and it pays to wait for games rather then picking them up on release. For just the above, and the IGC only came in June 2012, you would have covered in a 12 month subscription costing £39.99.

I really hope they keep PS+ in some capacity next gen

For got to mention, PS+ gives you instant access to around 14 games at any one time, 10 for PS3 and 4 for Vita. The games refresh on a cycle, roughly 5 games (3 PS3 and 2 Vita) get changed every month, so there is always new content coming along and one of the main reasons why I always seem to have a huge backlog of games to play.

You should crack on with Sleeping Dogs mate, a cracker of a game!

To be honest I hardly find this surprising most online services these days are subscription based so why should something that's used daily and does cost alot to run come free? The only way I can see this being a huge issue is if Sony coat it in ads or hardly improve the current service....

I don't see this as being as big a drama, they are adding features that they couldnt on the PS3 (cross game chat) plus there will be a lot of opportunity to stream, upload content and a lot of other features. It would be more surprising if they continued to do it for free.

Losing PS+ would be a blow though as it is a very good scheme and it will be interesting to see how that gets treated when PS4 launches as profiles, trophies etc can be migrated so what will happen to existing subscriptions....
