Kinect is required to use the Xbox One Empty Kinect is required to use the Xbox One

Post by Killswitchmad Tue 21 May 2013 - 21:47

After a Microsoft-hosted London event around the Xbox One reveal, Xbox's UK marketing director Harvey Eagle has said that the console will not function without Kinect connected.

"Kinect does require to be connected to Xbox One in all cases, yes," he said. Asked whether the Xbox One will accommodate people who perhaps play in their bedroom rather than their living room, Eagle replied: "Yes, absolutely. We use the living room almost as a moniker - that's where we assume the best screen is in the house. But if you like to play in any other room in the house, the Xbox One will deliver the same quality of experience whatever the environment."

As anyone who's ever tried to play with Kinect in an enclosed area knows, the current technology simply doesn't support it - which means that Xbox One's new Kinect sensor must be significantly different if it will work in any room in the house.

I tend to agree on this, very pissed off that it's being shoved on everyone however the new gestures seem to be a massive improvement over the current arm waving required

My thumbs work just fine Tom - in fact, keeping them moving when you reach my age is a good move against the inevitable onset of arthritis.......

My Xbox is connected to my TV in my room which a small asian can only just fit in, there's literally no room for anyone to walk in the middle of the room yet alone jump about. Very dissapointed about having to have Kinect.

The new improved Kinect is going to radically change how you order your pizza through the Pizza Hut app - it will now be classed as a free 'Cooking Mama'-esque game where you 'grab' and drop the ingredients you want directly on to the base Hooray

I think the difference is it has to be connected, you don't have to use it like you do this generations Kinect. controller will move the dashboard, your voice will turn it on but im sure there will be a button you can use......

and I also am confused, I get not everyone uses there xbox in the main room, would want TV streamed through there machine etc but simply don't use those features id imagine they will be subscription based anyway. ill use them so im happy especially if it allows me to de clutter my room.

if you want a XBOX ONE just for gaming the small bits we saw should of impressed you, E3 will impress you use it just for Games, but surely its better to have Many options in case in 2 or 3 years it is in your living room, if sky can be subscribed through it etc

I like everything they showed nearly everything they said and am excited for it.

I'm like you Jamie, I merely see the connect as a device for controlling features on the box. The only issue I have is that seeing as they are sold together is the potential scenario if the wife or child breaks the kinect then you need you buy them as a pair again and then your left with a useless box.

If I don't have to use it then I shouldn't have to have it connected, nor should I have to pay for it. It's like forcing me to pay £50 for a massive dildo with the console and saying "But you don't have to use the dildo! But if it breaks or you lose it then you can't use your console. Just because."

I'm not annoyed because they spent the whole show going on about stuff that I don't care about (and much of which probably won't be available here for years), I'm annoyed that they told us fuck all. Then after the show they start to nonchalantly mention it to reporters. "Yeah, we're fucking with preowned games. It has to be online once every 24 hours. You have to buy a kinect. We didn't bother making these things clear during the presentation as we thought you'd all be much more interested in how good it is at not being a games console."

But I'd bet you'd be tempted to use the dildo more than the kinect then Goatse Razz
