Cross platform play.

I've often wondered why this hasn't happened and I finally found out why.

M$ won't allow it on their consoles. MMO Final Fantasy 14 is due out soon but won't be on either Xbox because of it. Sony allow an open system so both PS3 and PS4 can play with PC gamers. But don't expect any cross platform FPS any time soon. MMO's are ok but PC players would have an advantage on FPS's.

Very true about FPS but, come on MS, stop denying us games because of ridiculous policies.

But the xbox can play with pc gamers too surely ?
Shadowrun (which actually is well underrated.. and can be gotten for a couple of quids on flea bay... )

I recall not thinking much of it when it was released but I grabbed a copy a while back from said bay of fleas and really could do with playing more.

Something I have often wondered about. Just read the article on EG about the Final Fantasy game.

Shame that MS are being so restrictive on this, cross platform play would be fucking excellent, imagine something like Elder Scrolls Online being cross platform? Would be mega and people wouldn't need to be too bothered about what console they get (probably the reason MS don't support it)

Not sure i like crossing over with pc gamers, the amount of hacking and cheating on the pc is chronic

^ ^ this and also with some games (FPS in particular) a decent keyboard and mouse PC player is going to merc a very good console player restricted to using a controller.....

Shame there isn't much cross platform play though, often thought it would make for some interesting 'banter' between platforms lol

The problem for Microsoft lies in the fact that Xbox Live is and always has been a closed system which is why it's never been hacked. for criss platform to happen M$ would have to divulge it's security secrets and open the platform up to Sony, it's not so bad with PC as the system can pretty much stay closed but it's still a mammoth task....
