Xbox.com upgrade is now live....
In anticipation of the forthcoming release of the full-body motion-control device for Xbox 360, Kinect, and the launch of the online gaming network Xbox LIVE in nine new territories, Microsoft has introduced an all-new version of the official website for the Xbox brand. Now live throughout Europe, the all-new website features a cleaner looking, white backdrop.
The biggest renovations of the official Xbox 360 website, xbox.com, include a browser based Avatar editor, allowing you to edit your Xbox 360 Avatar and preview avatar items before Electronic Theatre Imagepurchase, combined views for messages, friend and game requests and improved notification of your account subscription. Additional features include Family Reports, allowing you to understand what your family is doing and how they are using LIVE, and the option to play web games with your Xbox LIVE friends on the web or on Windows Phone 7.
In order to prepare for these changes xbox.com and the Xbox forums were offline and unavailable for a short period of time, starting at 9:00am GMT today. The Xbox LIVE service was not affected by this upgrade. When the website returned, the update was presented in full. Electronic Theatre will keep you updated with all the latest updates and changes to xbox.com.

I think its all part of the plan to get away from the whole needing an xbox to play on games on LIVE.
In 5 years time when we're all playing games streamed through our google tv the only bit of hardware we will have is the controller and M$ need to get people used to using LLIVE as a games service in the a sort of Steam type way now. (maybe an IMO should be in here somewhere)
