Is Microsoft hiding an ace up it's sleeve? Empty Is Microsoft hiding an ace up it's sleeve?

Post by Killswitchmad Sun 9 Mar 2014 - 6:52

As some may already know MS has announced that Direct X 12 will be announced at this year's GDC, Originally announced in the form of a single page teaser the site had Direct X 12 down as PC only....

Until today when the site quietly added the Xbox One logo to the teaser site, Is this Microsoft's big Xbox One announcement? It would certainly seem so and with the PS4 only running Direct X 11 style features this could be the turning point Microsoft need to edge ahead in the ling run.

As of now nobody us sure what Direct X 12 will bring to the table but with MS making such a song and dance it would be wise to expect a sizeable update of features and I would imagine GDC will be the place to see the first Xbox One game to support it...

It's nothing to do with backwards compatability I'm afraid chaps.

It's the software the drives graphics processing, Direct X12 will have some new shiny features that Direct X 11 won't have - trouble is, has the X1 got the power to make the most of it?

If it's backwards compatibility then MS have really shot themselves in the foot for not sorting it out/announcing it as a possibility back at launch. But I don't think it will be.

I actually wonder if the X1 was meant to run DX12 out of the box, it would explain various issues the X1 has faced (1080p, screen judder etc) these could all be a consequence of MS being forced to run it as DX11 due to delays with DX12...
