Virgin media launching 100mbs broadband just in time for xmas

Virgin Media has confirmed that it will roll out 100Mb/s broadband this week – doubling the speed of its top level package and claiming that over 12.7 million homes will be able to get the service.

Prime Minister David Cameron spoke about the 100Mb/s service earlier in the week – as you may have read on TechRadar – and the cable giant has now officially announced the news, and confirmed that it will go on sale in December.
Neil Berkett, chief executive officer at Virgin Media said: "The launch of our 100Mb service is a significant milestone in the UK's broadband evolution and a vivid illustration of the power of our next generation network."

Surely even with "up to" 100Mbs your connection is only going to be as good as the wiring in your house? is anyone actually going to achieve 100mbs? and if not what do you need to do to achieve it?

surely if the fibre optics are in place then its only a case of upgrading the equipment at the
exchange, so it should be a relatively quick role out to existing customers around the country?

They haven't mentioned price so i'm sure it wil be more expensive but hopefully it may resullt in a drop in price for the lower speeds.

Quite interesting to see whats going on with VM, first they sort out their encryption, now going after the high speed broadband market, wonder what else they have planned
