Capcom handing the Resi reins to a western developer?

One of Capcom's most cherished franchises could be heading West as rumours circulate that SOCOM developer Slant Six is to work on the next Resident Evil game.

Capcom has recently been entrusting its biggest games series to Western developers with varied levels of success – departed Swedish developer GRIN took on Bionic Commando with less than spectacular results, Canadian studio Blue Castle Games met with more success with Dead Rising and most recently the Devil May Cry series was handed over to UK based Enslaved creators Ninja Theory.

Vancouver based developer Slant Six has previously worked on two PSP Socom games – 2007's Tactical Strike and 2010's Fireteam Bravo 3 – and was also behind the PlayStation 3's SOCOM: Confrontation.

Its experience of team-based multiplayer could well come into play according to Kotaku's report, which outs the working title of Resident Evil: Raccoon City.

Slant Six's website does little to defuse the rumour, stating that the developer is working on an 'amazing new project... with our new publishing partner on a world class franchise.'

"We love rumour and speculation and regularly comment on it," Capcom told IGN, "In this instance of rumour and speculation I'd be delighted to offer you the following comment – we do not comment on rumour and speculation."
